About the office

The Information Technology Office plays an integral role in the success of the University ensuring the national provision of technology solutions that enable Learning & Teaching, Research and Administration across our University.

The Information Technology Office embeds an operating model with a view to enabling a greater level of engagement across the University, proactively serving as trusted advisors in the identification and prioritisation of continuous improvement initiatives and the delivery of digital technology change, whilst ensuring the ongoing availability of the IT environment.

About the role

The role develops digital solutions for prioritised initiatives within the context of the overall Architecture frameworks. The Solution Architect acts as an important link between IT teams in ensuring that solutions are designed to meet business & user requirements while also aligning to the overall IT architecture and security frameworks. The role champions quality throughout the lifecycle of the solution from idea to implementation.

The role is an important partner in service and experience improvement for the students, staff, and community of Notre Dame.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and design business improvement solutions on proposed initiatives and identify opportunities and options for improving investment planning and delivery processes, developing proposals to address high priority issues.
  • Contribute to maintaining and ensuring alignment with the Architecture framework and roadmaps.
  • Provide high level input to and assist with the effective implementation of a comprehensive architecture plan addressing all elements of the architectural framework ensuring that it is aligned to the IT architectural goals and technology roadmap.
  • Maintain the digital capability knowledge base and identify and create any other valuable information sources required for solution, security, and risk assessment.
  • Assist internal IT teams in the preparation and evaluation of tenders for solutions and provide technical advice for the procurement of any items associated with the proposed change.
  • Contribute to business cases which define potential benefits, options, or solutions for achieving these benefits through development of new or changed processes, identifying, and accessing potential vendors and technology solutions and associated business risks. Establishing, nurturing, and maintaining strategic working relationships with University stakeholders. Building rapport, communicating confidently, and presenting messages in a clear, concise, and articulate manner
  • Collaborating closely with all IT staff to design, develop and implement technology solutions and assist with adoption across Notre Dame

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Relevant Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/ or education or training.
  • Extensive experience in Solution Architecture experience (Data/ Integration Architecture, Technology Architecture, Security Architecture)
  • Experience in creation of business cases, business and technical requirements, conceptual, logical, physical and technical design, roadmaps, and ongoing management for all aspects of end enterprise and modern workspace technologies
  • Developed understanding of Cloud (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS), and on-site deployment and integration architectures (API, messaging, iPaaS)
  • Demonstrated application of solution architecture into Agile projects and modern practices such as DevOps
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise strategic demands and to identify alternate solutions, including propose estimate of the financial impact of architecture alternatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Architecture Frameworks e.g., TOGAF
  • Able to contribute to areas outside of specialty (e.g., enterprise architecture, application portfolio reviews, solution option development, product selection and architecture assessments)
